Liverpool youngster Daniel Pacheco believes this could be his year at Anfield and an injury to Fabio Borini could see him get his chance very soon.
The Spanish starlet was billed as a potential superstar when he joined the Reds’ youth ranks from Barcelona’s famous La Masia academy in 2007, but his progress has been slower than expected.
He is now 21-years-old and has only made 16 appearances for the Liverpool first team, but he is confident that he will build on the two he has made so far this season.
“I am trying to work very hard to get into the team,” he said in an interview on Liverpool’s official website.
“I've played a few games and I think I did quite well, so hopefully by working every day and playing in games with the U21s, I can get back into the team and play a few more games.”
Pacheco has also been enthused by Brendan Rodgers’ apparent willingness to give the club’s youth players a chance, with other academy stars such as Raheem Sterling, Andre Wisdom and Suso all getting some playing time in first team.
“I hope this is a new opportunity for me. I want to try my best,” added Pacheco
“We have already seen he is giving a chance to the youngsters, so hopefully I will get one in the next few games.”
Liverpool will have been dismayed when hearing that Fabio Borini had fractured a bone in his foot while training with Italy this week, but Pacheco could get an opportunity to stake a claim in Rodgers’ side due to the shortage in striking options at the club, even before Borini’s injury.
