Brazilian starlet plays down Liverpool speculation

Inter Milan playmaker Philippe Coutinho has played down speculation he could leave Italy for Liverpool.

The Brazilian, 19, has been linked with Liverpool after failing to feature regularly at the San Siro since the reign of ex-Reds boss Rafa Benitez.

Speaking to Corriere dello Sport, Coutinho said: “I am grateful to Benitez, he has given me a new positions and many chances.

“Ranieri [current Inter coach] is telling me to remain tranquil and to do during the game the same things I do while I am training.

“The transfer rumours? I can’t decide the future by myself. If it was up to me I would remain forever at Inter.”

Coutinho was brought on during Inter’s 1-1 draw with Trabzonspor on Tuesday night for only his fourth appearance this season.
