Liverpool's Luis Suarez suspended 10 games for biting opponent

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has already admitted to and apologized for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic on the upper right arm during a Premier League match on Sunday.

Now he'll have plenty of time to think about what he did wrong. Suarez has been banned for 10 games by England's Football Assn., which announced the suspension Wednesday.

The referee did not see the incident during the game and allowed Suarez to continue playing, despite protests by Ivanovic.

But a three-man independent panel determined that Suarez not only deserved to be punished but that the standard three-game ban for violent conduct would be “clearly insufficient” for his behavior.

Unless he wins an appeal, Suarez will miss the rest of the season. He has until Friday to appeal the extra seven banned games added on to the standard suspension.

Suarez was suspended seven games by the Dutch league for biting an opponent in 2010 while playing for powerhouse Ajax in the Netherlands.

He was also banned eight games in the Premier League for racially abusing Patrice Evra of Manchester United during a game in 2011.
