Liverpool defender José Enrique says Gareth Bale has been in great form but is confident the Reds can keep him quiet at Anfield.
José Enrique has played down Gareth Bale’s aura of invincibility ahead of Tottenham’s trip to Liverpool on Sunday.
The 23-year-old scored his 11th goal in nine games for club and country as he helped Spurs secure an emphatic 3-0 victory over Inter Milan in their Europa League last-16 first-leg tie.
It was Bale’s 21st strike of the season, with the Southampton youth graduate now the clear favourite to be named PFA Players’ Player of the Year.
Spurs make the trip to Liverpool on Sunday, and Enrique admitted the Reds face a difficult – but not impossible – task in keeping Tottenham’s talisman shackled at Anfield.
“He’s one of the best players around at the moment and he’s scoring plenty of goals,” Enrique told Liverpool’s website.
“But every player is just a person. Gareth Bale is a person as well. Of course, he’s a good player and a complete footballer.
“Before, when people were talking about him, they said that he would need to score a few more goals and now he is a scoring plenty.
“He can play as a winger but he can also play as a No10. And of course, he’s a really difficult player to play against.
“We’ll have to play like we have in the last two league games, look to keep a clean sheet and try to stick together.
“Even if you are a really good player, like Bale, if you are against two players it can be really difficult to play. So we will try to stop him and all his team mates because Tottenham have plenty of good players.”
Bale scored in Tottenham’s 2-1 victory over Brendan Rodgers’s side at White Hart Lane in December.
