Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling is not complaining about being out of the Reds’ starting XI lately, the Daily Mirror has reported - instead the England international accepts that it is part of the learning curve at Anfield.
Sterling forced his way into Brendan Rodgers’ first team earlier in the season and was for a while a fixture in the side, with the Mirror pointing out that the only two players to have appeared more often for Liverpool this season are Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard.
But recent weeks have seen Sterling take his place as a substitute, with the arrival of both Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho making competition for places tougher now than in the first half of the campaign.
Sterling said: “I've had to do quite a bit of growing up, to keep my head down, and I understand completely I haven't made it yet - as a young player you've just got to keep working hard all the time.
“I understand the situation, and hopefully I can get on the bench and then make an impact coming off the bench. That is the way to keep progressing, to try and get a chance and then to take it. ”
Sterling intends to return to Jamaica this summer, the country of his birth, to set up a charity project to fund the running of two primary schools in the Maverley district of Kingston, where he lived until he was five-years-old.
