STEVEN GERRARD inspired Liverpool FC to a winning end to 2011 then declared: “It’s great to be back.”
Gerrard came off the bench to deliver a magnificent 31-minute cameo appearance as
Kenny Dalglish’s side earned only their fourth home win of the season with a 3-1 triumph over
Newcastle United.
In only his second appearance following two months out with an ankle infection, Gerrard scored Liverpool’s third from a narrow angle on 78 minutes after
Craig Bellamy’s brace wiped out Daniel Agger’s own goal.
And Gerrard said: “It’s good to be back. I've had a terrible year with a lot of injuries, but I just want to look forward.
“I'm delighted to be back with the lads, to get on the scoresheet and get three points was a perfect return. It's great to be back.”
On Gerrard's impact, Dalglish said: “When Steven's not playing he's influential so I suppose you can add the word hugely influential when he is in the team.
“He's getting back to fitness which is fantastic reward for him and everyone who has worked with him to get him back to the level he's at now. He's got a lot of years to go yet and we'll look forward to that.
“He's put the pressure on himself now, scoring a goal but it's great to see him getting his reward.
