Sir Alex Ferguson believes Liverpool have been following an "agenda" in maintaining their defiant stance around striker Luis Suarez.
Manchester United manager Ferguson revealed on Friday United had been asked by the Football Association not to offer any comment on the row between Suarez and United defender Patrice Evra at Anfield last month, which has led to the Uruguayan being charged with making racist comments.
That did not stop Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish confirming on Thursday that the Merseyside giants still stood by their man, who continues to protest his innocence.
Ferguson described that as a continuation of a policy by Liverpool to "drip-feed" information into the public domain in defence of their man.
"I have noticed it has been part of their agenda over the last couple of weeks," said the United boss.
"They have been drip-feeding a lot of stuff. I understand that.
"They want to protect their player. He is their asset.
"We have been asked by the FA not to say anything about the Evra situation. We have abided by that. They will deal with it."
However, the Scot criticised Brighton manager Gus Poyet, who has accused Evra of being a "cry-baby" and followed up with the claim he would defend Suarez "to the hilt".
"Gus Poyet's remarks are inappropriate at this time," said Ferguson.
"People throughout the world are condemning racism. He has chosen the wrong time.
"I can understand why he wants to support someone from his country but he has to think about it more.
"I don't know how the question has been loaded but it seems his criticism of Evra is a bit silly."
Amid all this, FIFA president Sepp Blatter has been forced into an apology after initially suggesting on-field racism, such as that alleged by Evra, should be dealt with by a post-match handshake.
Rio Ferdinand was among the high-profile members of the football fraternity to make their feelings known.
And while Ferguson praised Blatter for saying sorry, he declined to rebuke centre-half Ferdinand for making his feelings known via Twitter.
"Rio knows the parameters he can go to," said Ferguson. "He cannot discuss anything involving Manchester United.
"He can Twitter as much as he likes as long as it doesn't affect us."
